Maputo
Maputo is the commercial, political and cultural hub of Mozambique.
Also known as the City of Acacias and the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Maputo became the capital of Mozambique in 1898, and is now a key tourism destination in southern Africa. The economy of Maputo continues to expand at a faster rate than the rest of the country, driven in part by tourism, the development industry and the impact of the growing resources boom in the country.
With its Mediterranean-style architecture, flame-tree-lined avenues, sidewalk cafés and a waterside setting, Maputo is easily one of Africa’s most attractive capitals.
