Enriching Lives - CleanStar Mozambique

Enriching Lives

The smallholder farmer is at the core of CleanStar’s business in Mozambique. By engaging deeply with our community production partners and delivering real ongoing improvements to their lives, the Company is able to earn fair returns for its shareholders.
Earning returns for our shareholders is inextricably linked with advancing the interests of our community production partners.

Improving Rural Family Health
Rural families in Africa do not experience year-round nutrition security, often caused by an over-reliance on a small mix of staple crops. This has significant adverse effects on family health, particularly for young children. By implementing a cultivation system focused on soil restoration, a greater variety of nutritious food crops can be grown, which in turn has a strong positive impact on rural family health.
Increasing and Improving Rural Family Incomes
Smallholder farmers who work with CleanStar Mozambique will experience a major and sustained improvement in both their income and asset levels, benefiting from the increased crop yields and access to markets that the Company’s approach delivers.

The cultivation system has been carefully designed from the financial perspective of the smallholder, with a strong understanding of the risk/reward dynamics required to shift behaviour and ensure a transition to sustainable agricultural practices. Incomes are not only increased, but also are more reliably distributed across the year, greatly increasing smallholder resilience to shocks caused by weather events and commodity price fluctuations.
